Marvel Apologizes After Sharing Tweet of Captain America Statue from Avengers Game

On June 16, 2020 the Marvel’s Avengers game Twitter account shared an image of the Captain America statue from the game.

In the tweet, the caption read “Heroes Park once celebrated the Avengers, but has since been defaced. Despite the AIM drones that surveil the area, there are still people who believe and pay their respect to Captain America.”

The tweet then went on to ask users to download the game.

As you may remember, June 16th was at or near the apex of the civil unrest resulting from George Floyd’s death. Protests, looting, and violence consumed every big city in America. Additionally, statues were being turned down all across America and the world.

Twitter immediately let Marvel know how it felt about the tweet. Here are some of the responses:

Marvel was quick on their feet and responded before things got worse for them. They took down the original tweet and issued an apology.
